      Chi Running With Ann Margaret

      I discovered running at the age of 47 via a breast cancer fundraiser over 5K. I was instantly smitten, & just as instantly injured. My pattern was race, suffer with knee or ITB pain, race, repeat. I could never run longer or faster because I couldn’t really train much. Chi running was not immediately the answer, in fact it made matters a lot worse at first. I tried to get the gist of it & must have grossly exaggerated both the lean & the foot lift, because I tore a hamstring & gave myself sciatica & a piriformis problem way worse than the discomfort I’d come to expect from conventional running.

      Ann Margaret has been instrumental in transforming my running in just a few months. She has guided me to focus on key aspects of my technique. She has provided expert feedback & I have been stunned many times at how knowledgeable she is.

      I trust her highly intuitive style. She is holistic & thorough in her approach & pays meticulous attention to detail, fusing experience & innovation, always tailoring everything to suit me & my body, my abilities, & a tricky shift pattern.

      I am now almost painfree, easily running further & further at a consistent pace. I have recently come within slivers of personal best times I set whilst injuring myself every time, whereas now I can run as many miles again the following day. I’m hoping for a good for age time at my first marathon in April. {Update from Mel on 10 mile race, Dec. 6, 2008: I'm over the moon with the time - 84:19, over 2 minutes off my previous PB, & a whole 11.5 mins better than last time I did this race & really suffered.}

      Most of all I am full of the joy of running in a relaxed & energetic way. I’m not purple & panting any more. It really is comparatively effortless. I have been working with Ann Margaret online. She has seen photos & a video of me running. We have never met. The level of personal attention is incredible.

      Flexibility is a major problem for me. I am extremely stiff. Ann Margaret has prescribed me menus of simple & fun exercises based on her study of how my body looks in various positions, & I have had excellent results in a relatively short period of time.

      I am actively correcting structural misalignments & loosening up following this natural unobtrusive method which I can practice at home, at work, anywhere I have a few minutes to spare.

      Before a race I always go through a quick Egoscue routine which mobilizes me & calms my nerves too. It is the best preparation I have ever found, & I am always amazed when I leave home with my legs swinging freely & ready to race.

      Some of the exercise are divine too – I love the way they make me feel after years of tension & weakness.
